Delivering a Collaborative Workspace for Design and Craft

Project: Shared Design & Manufacturing Hub, Wanaka, New Zealand

Client: Melanie Craig Interior Architecture & Joinery Crew

Project Goal:  Cohesive Group partnered with Melanie Craig Interior Architecture and Joinery Crew to design and build a collaborative workspace specifically tailored to their unique needs.  The 841sqm facility combines a 507sqm joinery factory with a 274sqm dedicated office and showroom space.

Material Mastery:  This building demonstrates Cohesive Construction’s diverse construction expertise.  The unique exterior features a combination of tilt panels, korok panelling, T-rib metal cladding, and Cemintel panels that create a striking brick effect. Both structural and cold-rolled steel integrate seamlessly for optimal functionality.

Building Through Challenges:  Completed in 6 months, the project navigated the post-pandemic environment with significant material delays.  Cohesive Construction’s proactive approach and strong industry relationships ensured the project stayed on track and delivered within budget.

A Space for Innovation and Collaboration Redefined: The new facility empowers both Melanie Craig and Joinery Crew to push boundaries and elevate their crafts. Melanie Craig’s design team has a dedicated space to showcase their creativity directly to clients within the showroom, while Joinery Crew leverages a cutting-edge production facility directly on-site to bring those visions to life. This fosters a dynamic and collaborative environment that will undoubtedly inspire future design and construction projects.
